Strictly Come Dancing star Holly Valance gives birth to her first child
Holly Valance’s father-in-law, Tony Candy, died six weeks before the birth of her first child, but she has made sure that his name will live on.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant and her husband, Nick Candy, have given their daughter the name Toni.
“She was born a few days ago,” Candy tells Mandrake at the Wonderland Ball held by the Reuben Foundation to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. “We have decided to call her Luka Violet Toni Candy.”
The property developer says: “Her nickname will be LuLu, but, obviously, if she ever goes into business, LuLu Candy just doesn’t quite work. My father’s nickname was always TC.”
Holly, 30, who starred in the Australian soap opera Neighbours before becoming a pop star and television presenter, did not attend the event at Bridgewater House in Westminster, where guests included Princess Beatrice.

23 Nov 2013“Holly is at home,” her husband says. “We aren’t having any help at the moment. Holly doesn’t want any; she wants to do it all ourselves at this stage, but that might change – it has only been a few days.”
Candy, 40, adds: “She is a perfect mother. It was a natural birth. She is from a big Australian family, with younger siblings, so she knows exactly what she is doing.
“It is such a shame that dad died six weeks before Luka was born, but I had the best role model possible in him, so, hopefully, if I can be anything like the father he was to me, when it comes to raising Luka, we’ll be onto a winner.”

Ministry of Sound founder James Palumbo gives Liberal Democrats £65,000
James Palumbo, the Ministry of Sound co-founder, has given the Liberal Democrats something to rave about.
Mandrake learns that the businessman, who became Lord Palumbo of Southwark earlier this year after being nominated for a peerage by the Lib Dems, has handed Nick Clegg’s party £65,000 in the past three months.
New figures disclose that James, who is estranged from his father, Lord Palumbo, the Conservative peer and former chairman of the Arts Council, donated £50,000 to the Lib Dems centrally.
He gave a further £10,000 to the Westmorland and Lonsdale local party of Tim Farron, the party’s president, and £5,500 to the Bermondsey and Old Southwark local party of Simon Hughes, the deputy leader, whose constituency includes Palumbo’s nightclub.
Accounts show that Palumbo, 50, lent himself £118,000 from the Ministry of Sound Group Ltd. The debt was still outstanding as of December 31, 2011.

17 Apr 2011That year, he gave £258,000 to the Lib Dems through his company. He paid himself £417,000, compared with £563,000 in 2010.
In January 2011, he speculated on the gold market, purchasing £1 million of “gold sovereigns”.
Palumbo was handed his peerage just two days after a £10,000 donation to the local party of Danny Alexander, the Lib Dem Cabinet minister, was declared.
Palumbo is not just a fan of the Lib Dems, however. He lent Lord Mandelson, the former Labour Cabinet minister, a chauffeur-driven car during the 1997 election campaign.

Ellen DeGeneres gives waitress $10K
Ellen DeGeneres has given a generous waitress $10,000.
The talk show host reached out to Sarah Hoidahl in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday, after she heard that the server recently picked up the lunch tab for two National Guard soldiers affected by the U.S. government's shutdown.
Ellen was so touched by news of Sarah's kind gesture, which saw her pay the soldiers' $27.25 lunch bill, that she presented her with a check for $10,000 on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
She also reimbursed her for the bill and gave her a brand new 50-inch TV.
Upon receiving the gifts, Sarah repeatedly told the presenter: ''You're a good person.''
Ellen, who is married to "Arrested Development" star Portia De Rossi, is well known for her charity work.
Earlier this year she joined forces with Randy Jackson to host a star-studded gala to help Brad Pitt's charity, Make It Right, which aims to help residents of New Orleans, who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Ellen has also donated more than $2 million to the organization.
The 55-year-old star and her actress wife recently sold their equestrian ranch in Thousand Oaks, California, for $10.85 million.
