Strictly Come Dancing star Holly Valance gives birth to her first child

Holly Valance’s father-in-law, Tony Candy, died six weeks before the birth of her first child, but she has made sure that his name will live on.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant and her husband, Nick Candy, have given their daughter the name Toni.

“She was born a few days ago,” Candy tells Mandrake at the Wonderland Ball held by the Reuben Foundation to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. “We have decided to call her Luka Violet Toni Candy.”

The property developer says: “Her nickname will be LuLu, but, obviously, if she ever goes into business, LuLu Candy just doesn’t quite work. My father’s nickname was always TC.”

Holly, 30, who starred in the Australian soap opera Neighbours before becoming a pop star and television presenter, did not attend the event at Bridgewater House in Westminster, where guests included Princess Beatrice.

“Holly is at home,” her husband says. “We aren’t having any help at the moment. Holly doesn’t want any; she wants to do it all ourselves at this stage, but that might change – it has only been a few days.”

Candy, 40, adds: “She is a perfect mother. It was a natural birth. She is from a big Australian family, with younger siblings, so she knows exactly what she is doing.

“It is such a shame that dad died six weeks before Luka was born, but I had the best role model possible in him, so, hopefully, if I can be anything like the father he was to me, when it comes to raising Luka, we’ll be onto a winner.”

Simon Cowell to marry Lauren Silverman after baby's birth

Simon Cowell is planning to marry Lauren Silverman after the birth of their baby.

The 54-year-old media mogul is keen to make his 87-year-old mum Julie happy as she's always wanted him to settle down and has agreed to wed the New York socialite who is pregnant with his first child.

A source told The Sun newspaper: ''Simon's mom has always dreamt of the day Simon settles down with one woman and he's determined for her to be a big part of the day.''

Lauren - who recently divorced wealthy real-estate owner Andrew Silverman with whom she has seven-year-old son Adam - has agreed to a church wedding near Julie's home in Sussex, England, in 2014 and plans to also hold a blessing in America which her friends can enjoy.

There ceremony is said to be an intimate affair and the guest list will feature only a few celebrities including 'X Factor' judge Louis Walsh, hypnotist Paul McKenna, Top Shop owner Sir Philip Green and Simon's ex-girlfriend Sinitta.

Earlier this month Simon posted a series of cryptic messages on Twitter promising his fans some exciting news in the near future, which is rumored to be the announcement of his engagement to his pregnant girlfriend.

He wrote on the social networking site: ''Excited to reveal some news in the next few weeks. Am feeling very positive right now. It's been hard work but nothing should be too easy.

''In life you can obsess on other people's failures or focus on your own mistakes and work hard to make sure you don't repeat them.

''But hard work and focus gives you a chance to turn a corner. And that's how I am feeling right now.''
