Do not be tempted by all the tatt and fluff of Christmas. People may be telling you that a naff Yuletide sweater is where it's at for 2013, but let me tell you, ironic style never did anyone any long-term favours. It may be all the rage with you 20-somethings to get yourself into the Primark jumper with a reindeer on but I'm not convinced.

While Stella McCartney no doubt enjoyed - if not downright encouraged - Daisy Lowe wearing a Santa hat at the designer's Bruton Street store Christmas lights event last night , was Stella herself wearing one? No, she was not.
In fact, with Stella leading the way, the unofficial dress code of the night appeared to be anything in entirely non-festive black. Topped with - a zingily coloured coat.
Salma Hayek did it in yellow (very Elizabeth II) and Louise Redknapp, whom in recent years has turned into something of a stealth stylista, demonstrated the look perfectly with black trousers, sweater and a stunner of a Stella McCartney autumn/winter '13 coat in (what I'm calling) tangerine. Now that is a stylish, nodding wink to the festive season.
